The Trinidad & Tobago Automobile Sports Association held their biennial general elections at their AGM on July 12th 2006.

TTASA is the governing body for all motorsport in Trinidad & Tobago and the NSO for all motorsport as appointed by the Ministry of Sport. The Karting club, TTKA, the only other motorsport NSO, can also receive funding from the Ministry, but for Karting only. TTASA is also the appointed ASN for the FIA, the world motorsport authority. FIA is responsible for major global motorsport events such as F1 and WRC. In T&T if motorsport events are to be organised it must be with the approval of the FIA ASN (TTASA) otherwise such events are deemed illegal.

The North American, Central American and Mexican arm of FIA (NACAM) of which T&T is a member through TTASA, had appointed in 2005 then TTASA President Mr Selwyn "Bunny" Persad as the NACAM Pro Secretary General. After Wednesday's general elections, Bunny's Vice President, Mr. Jameer Ali, was voted in as President of TTASA, with a former president, Mr. Rawlins Amar, taking the vice presidency. Mr Persad held the presidency for two full terms (4 years) and the management postponed the 2005 elections, giving him another year at the helm until 2006. We are sure he will remain a very active member of TTASA, but not on the management team as he may perhaps apply focus to his NACAM appointment. NACAM president, Mr. Enzo Spano in a visit to T&T, offered a challenge for Trinidad to secure a racing facility that could possibly host an event for the NACAM Maseratti Series. NACAM currently hosts drag championships in Venezuela, Panama and Santo Domingo to name a few.

Members of the management committee were voted into office for their 2 year term as stated by their constitution. The newly appointed team is as follows:

President - Mr. Jameer Ali
Vice President - Mr. Rawlins Amar
Secretary - Mr. Daniel Ramoutarsingh
Treasurer - Mr. Hanif Abraham
Competition Chairman - Mr. Nizam Mohammed
Members Representative - Mr. Imtiaz Abdul
Members Representative - Mr. Ruddy Beekee

There was a mandate set, given the current state of affairs for motorsport in T&T, to ensure the upliftment of the sport. TTASA will continue to plan for the development of a new drag strip and circuit track and in securing Wallerfield for use until the new facility is complete.
