hmmm, the last time two Irishmen gave me the jinks, it was on a freighter in the south Atlantic, and I couldn't sit down for two weeks afterwards...

Throws mug out window, 3-point turn, homewards ex to board...

had a bed feeling for some weeks now.....harsh banging noise while the car is idling. I knew what the problem was by the queasy feeling in my stomach (HUSH SPIKE Laughing

Confirmed it with a quick peek under the bonnet. Both engine mounts have become squashed under the weight of the engine, and the exhaust manifold was banging against the chassis....not a good thing
Also not an easy fix, with the exhaust-side engine mount confined within the bends of the exhaust manifold pipes.

Took the car to the mechanic yesterday, along with the spare mounts, hoping we would not have to remove the exhaust to swap mounts. Luckily with his lift and a transmission jack and three hours fidgeting, we were successful. He removed the starter so he had more room to shift and raise the engine this way and that....the order is engine block, mount, mount bracket, body. It was impossible to remove the mounts alone so we just pulled everything out. Some gear wrenches made life a lot easier

this fellow supposed to be cylindrical, and a LOT thicker

Mg Man,
if yuh replace it with an OEM mount, won't you have to do this again?
any cons to replacing them with the tougher grade rubber (SASCO)?

How dat lookin' llike ah cortina engine mount so? Laughing

Could you use that instead? Good or Bad

actually it's closer to a land rover mount. Neither the LR or the Cortina has the right offset.....Karl, three to four years not too bad between swaps. The engine needs a fairly soft mount. A hard mount will potentially cause cracking elsewhere. Remember this engine likes to twist around even at idle. There is a club upgrade which I will probably invest in, maybe in 4 years

Descriptive words that I am capable of using to relate to you the experience..........

Frightening:
I have been driven, by Kevin, many times before, and it was always with a form of relaxed disinterest. I tend to be able to predict his inputs, even before he considers it safe to do so.

In this vehicle however, as his alter-ego takes command, there are uneasy differences.
Firstly there's the acceleration. I am used to feeling 235lb-ft in a 3200lb Jeep, and I'm comfortable there. This has me looking for the strength to keep the helmet upright, and a means of bracing my legs and upper body as we go through the turns. Coupled with what I thought to be erratic yanking of the steering, which i thought was to induce over-steer to assist with it's labored turning. Only to be told in between runs, that was actually fighting it, as the tail is on the verge of getting away from him.
The fact that I'm unable to tell what's happening, while bracing with my right leg, and hoping my left hand finds something suitable to act as an "Oh Sheit Handle", that won't get me reprimanded because it's too fragile, as the car is accelerating on his line into the next long sweeping corner.....................

WR, that was a remarkably clear and concise description given that you survived a rattling in MG's blender. After such a trip, one normally would write thus: ig wur kwit a rid im gut en der kray vikle blongink tu kuvn...

...personally, sitting in the passenger seat surrounded by all that plaid, I always get the haunting feeling of being rather like a Scotsman's left-side family jewel... Laughing
