Alas, we did make a stand with marketing and distribution... called in a favour and got us two Zorce banners made, ran our audio (mp3) ad a few times at the meet and managed to sell 30 mags in the dark using the trusty headlight! On top of which, we got a new agent for all of Grenada~ Brydens & Minors! _________________ Drags, Circuit, Solodex, Rally, Karting, the Shows, the Girls, the Car you drive...

Well Project Rx7 has been well treated of late to regular washes with Solder Seal Gunk Car Wash. I find the dust and dirt really stays OFF for a few days after the wash whereas with a regular water wash the car is back to stink on a day.
The turbo seals look like they have gone since we have been getting a lot of smoke lately. I have already purchased a replacement turbo unit with new seals. It's a Turbonetics T3? compressor replacement that should give similar performance to stock as it is mated to a standard series 5 back end. This is no big turbo but should be adequate to give us fast spooling for easy drift and good street reponse. I will be setting it back to 5psi as stock since our fuel system is still untouched. When we get the Walbro 225 I'll prob look at 8-10psi max. _________________ Drags, Circuit, Solodex, Rally, Karting, the Shows, the Girls, the Car you drive...

Our latest challenge has been brought about due to a slack spade connector that powered the fuel pump. One shutdown, one tow home (thanks Banzai!) and one half hour later we discovered this source of engine cut-off after every hard right corner. A pair of pliers and some fresh electrical tape got us sorted at 1 am. _________________ Drags, Circuit, Solodex, Rally, Karting, the Shows, the Girls, the Car you drive...

Since then however the car has lost power. The dyno confirmed that we are missing around 40 horses and 20 lb-ft of torque. The curves too are horribly rough as evidenced by the car's bucking on the dyno. I thought we were testing an rx7 but instead we have a bronco. Perhaps it needs to get some. See what happens without a track?
After consultation with Shaun Ready we learnt that turbos either work or don't. Right now we are hovering around 4lbs rather that shooting to 5. Something is off with the engine then... But what? Without lots of smoke, seals or the turbo both seem to be the wrong answer. So it's either fuel or spark.
Before we assume that the engine is hurt, a few basic checks are necessary. The gas filter has been replaced and fuel injector cleaner added to our fuel (two bottles). The spark plugs have also been changed. The idle has been smoothed out (it was misfiring b4) at least and revving through the gears is a little smoother. But still there is too much jerk and not enough pepper. A fuel injector cleaning is needed and the old fuel tank will need to come out. We will have to adjust the straps that hold it in place and put in our shiny new tank, which has been around since the early days of this thread.
When all this has been done, then we can see what's happening. _________________ Drags, Circuit, Solodex, Rally, Karting, the Shows, the Girls, the Car you drive...

Yeah I've been thinking about those as well. They were last changed in November 2005... _________________ Drags, Circuit, Solodex, Rally, Karting, the Shows, the Girls, the Car you drive...

Plugs have been changed, injectors cleaned (at 'John D Benz Man') and we have recovered some smoothness. I think we are still missing about 15% of total power. Now I think I want to examine the vacuum lines and the fuel pump itself.
Plug wires and coils are a possibility and I really want to get the new fuel tank to fit.
Next job at Samara's will be to weld the diff mount, replace the exhaust system and change the tank and fuel pump. It would also be great to check the spray pattern on the secondary injectors. _________________ Drags, Circuit, Solodex, Rally, Karting, the Shows, the Girls, the Car you drive...

I've also been tantalizing myself with the idea of this:

Recently we had noticed a serious power drop and major hesitation from the engine. Fearing the worst we tested the compression and discovered it was pretty low. After swapping plugs, plug wires, coils, air-flow meter, rebuilding the harness and cleaning the injectors, we traced it by elimination to a faulty ECU. A borrowed unit allowed us to run sucessfully at the VK Super Special at the National Stadium and a used computer has been reserved until we can make our purchase.

Two nights ago this problem reared its ugly head and tried to smoke me out of the car. Apparently we there was a short circuit happening during hard cornering and sometimes even with regular corners which finally caused the wire feeding the relay which activated the fuel pump to heat up. This melted plastic and started to burn the upholstery. So there am I at 2am in Curepe junction pushing the car to the gas station with the help of a bystander.
Luckily, for me John Tannous' karting mechanic had just finished filling his new Ford Ranger and offered me a tow home. The car spent a day untouched and I decided to do my own digging up today and discvered a bunch of fused wires healthily arcing in the back that took off a bit of skin on my thumb as I tried to separate them. Off came the battery poles once more and I spend the next two hours extracting burnt or unused wires (from the old music system setup).
Tonight with the help of Herman, a long time buddy with electrical skillz, we ran new wires to a new relay and re-did the system neatly and using better insulated wires and a few plastic screw down joins. We discovered that the factory live wire for the fuel pump was inactive and un-did the creative mess from before, which rigged the fuel pump's power from the amplifier's power wire. This was re-designed to feed the pump alone and to make things even sweeter we ran a kill switch to the fuel pump for emergencies and of course the dreaded rotary flooding when starting relief. _________________ Drags, Circuit, Solodex, Rally, Karting, the Shows, the Girls, the Car you drive...

Narend, the kill switch is great, but you should consider one that is directly linked to the oil pressure. If the worst comes to pass, as soon as oil pressure drops, fuel is automatically cut off. That way, an unfamiliar or worse, an unconscious driver won't have the worry of fuel being pumped after an engine failure or crash. _________________
