Mutt I'm trying for OUTLAW to do the Xede install. So at least I hope to have Xede installed
(though not activated... no lap-top yet) when you arrive.

New E6 (SMART enabled) maps are still under development by ChipTorque in Australia.
I may have to use US Evo 8 RS maps without SMART for the time being.
Oh well, nobody send mi. Laughing

BTW... I want you to copy ROM files of spare E6 RalliArt Sport ECU when you arrive.
It's already 'scaled' for add-on intake and exhaust. Might be a good "base" to start with.

Next RPM table, Octane and Boost maps to find... then... Twisted Evil

HEADS UP!!! It looks like there are some problems with the "stand-alone" AEM Engine
Management System (EMS)... and some serious "customer service" issues as well. Rolling Eyes

POTENTIAL AEM EMS BOX FAILURES...srt specific...maybe.
http://forums.evolutionm.net/showthread.php?threadid=218386

With an 80% failure rate (4 out of 5 units) from one speed-shop maybe it's better to err
on the side of caution for the time being...

Strange... I also remember the original "coil-pack burning" problems with the "piggy-back"
AEM e-Manage when it was first issued... That was sorted out eventually and the e-Manage
Ultimate
is supposed to be pretty good now. Let's hope the EMS is sorted out soon as well.

I think you mean GReddy e-Manage/e-Manage Ultimate... and the coil-pack issues had to do with bad ground signals from the e-Manage I believe...

^ ^ ^ Opps Embarassed Yup you're quite right.
Still, I hope AEM sort out these issues soon.

Yup... but still waiting on ChipTorque to finish Evo 6 version of maps. Rolling Eyes
Wouldn't you know same damn situation with openEcu and re-flashing software.
Waiting on Evo 6 version for that too. Rolling Eyes

At least the sh!tty running has stopped for now. Xede seems to have adapted to
current conditions even without SMART-enabled map installed.
Smoother running now, even with sh!tty stock 2003 Evo 8 + 91 octane map.

Next month... laptop with serial port... + 3" downpipe. Then I'll build a more suitable
SMART-enabled map for the Xede... 93-octane + cams + exhaust...
I'll just have to wait for the re-flash software after that.
Soon I hope. We'll see how it goes. Wink

Good news!
Saw the car on the road a couple times looks great!

I wish it was running as well as it looks.
Right now I have only 9 psi boost... Actuator problem.
Enough to have a little fun... but no where near as strong as before.
Oh well... All in good time I suppose. Rolling Eyes

Family issues first. Will get at it after Thursday.

Hi all

I run the Hydra EMS 2.17 on my EVO 6.

I've been running it for 2 months. I run about 1.4 bar with mostly standard items. only things are exhuast, fuel pump, air intake, clutch, an 8MR turbo titan.

If you have any specific questions let me know.

^ ^ ^ The 8MR turbo.
Isn't that the titanium TD05HRA-16G6-10.5T like a Tommi Makinen turbo?
What upgrades do you plan before you increase the boost level?

How much did the Hydra cost?

This is a log from an Evo VII. I won't disclose the owners name unless he decides to
chose to have himself known.

This is just one of several 3rd gear pulls but you can see the car is suffering from
quite a bit of knock. Using the pointer, I traced the graph to identify the respective
rpm and load @ which knock was most present:

KS=Knock Sum

4700-5100 rpm (KS = 5)
5200 rpm (KS = 7)
5300-5750 rpm (KS = 6)
5800-6200 rpm (KS = 5)
6375-6600 rpm (KS = 9)
6700-7000 rpm (KS = 8 )
7100-7500 rpm (KS = 7)
7600 (KS = 14)
7700 (KS = 21)

The last two indicating severe knock.

Utilizing a program for map tracing I examined a stock JDM Evo VII Rom to locate the
cells which correspond to the rpm and load cells that accounted for the knock within
the High Octane Ignition Table.

The ecu utilizes the ignition values from this table during open loop mode.
As in this case however the logs won't reflect the values we see in the tables as the
ecu will retard timing to prevent further detonation.

It has been observed by some that the evo's ecu will pull timing once it detects knock
equal to/or greater than 3. The ecu won't pull timing if there 's only 1 count of knock.
It will pull timing for a count of 2 if it happens repetitiously over a long period of time.
From the time it sees a knock count of 3 it will pull 2* of timing or more.
In this light the aim is to achieve a maximum knock count of 0-1 across the board.

We can definitely see the ecu is pulling timing by comparing logged ignition to that
corresponding in the High Octane Table. For example:

From the log @ 7400RPM | 180 Load we are seeing 20* timing.

But if we refer to the High Octane Ignition Map...

it should in fact be running in the vicinity of 22*-23* maybe even more since the car
was running on a Ralliart ECU.
____________________________________________________________________________

Unfortunately this car had neither a wideband O2 sensor nor an EGT probe.
Despite this, there's no harm in utilizing the logs to clean up knock...after all, there's no
intention of altering Air:Fuel Ratios or advancing timing...right now the ignition map
needs to be cleaned up by pulling back timing.

In order to locate the specific cells that corresponded to the logged load, timing, knock
and rpm data, I used a map tracing program available at http://www.aktivematrix.com.

Using the High Octane Ignition Table pulled from the rom I pasted the cells and pointed
to the directory of the 3rd gear log. Since the original ROM for this vehicle was not present
while writing this,
I utilized another from a local VII I read a year or so back (Duane 3NE2NR).
The difference between the two vehicles should be minimal though. That is to say,
although the actual timing value might differ slightly, it would still correspond
to the same cell location within the table.

The map trace allowed me to see all cells which were accessed by the ECU during
the log (highlighted in pink), and those which detonated beyond the knock threshold
(highlighted in white).

With this information I could now alter the corresponding cells in the High Octane Ignition
Map to something lower. I would seek changes 2* at a time and then re-log to see if
knock sum decreased for those regions.

____________________________________________________________________________

Side Notes:

This car was running the stock 9.8T 16G turbo and hitting 1.5 bar @ times.
A more efficient turbo such as a 10.5T or even White Rabbit would heat up the air
less @ the same pressure and allow for more head room to play with timing.

Although the car is suffering from quite a bit of knock, it doesn't mean there isn't
room to advance ignition. As rpms climb, an engine will reach a point where VE
reaches it's peak and then decreases. Most time this may be seen as the region where
the engine hits peak torque. After this point is the potential to run slightly more timing
as the drop in VE corresponds to lower heat and pressure in the combustion
chamber. This is a delicate balance though...since the knock threshold for low octane
gas is not one to be pushed.

This is a great writeup for anyone interested in learning to reflash your own evo

http://www.evolutionm.net/forums/showthread.php?t=302895

I hope more evo enthusiasts begin to datalog and walk slowly towards the idea of
reflashing their car. As things stand too many people are relying on others to tune
their car with god knows what going on.

The kind of logs I've seen on some local evos...people need to start getting serious
about their ride...the tools are there...we just need to be willing to take the time to
read, test and learn.

As soon as I get my car I'll be doing all this myself.
