More opinions from the auto journalists...

2006 Mitsubishi Evolution IX vs. 2006 Subaru WRX STI
Last time we tested Subaru's WRX STI, we let it loose against a Pontiac GTO. It was no contest:
The STI was just as fast as the 400-horsepower GTO and it mopped up in the handling and
braking tests. Plus, author Ed Hellwig said, "It's as raw a performance car as you're going to find
in a showroom. It tosses subtlety out the window in favor of maximum performance at all costs."

Not bad for a $33,000 car. However, get it alongside Mitsubishi's Lancer Evolution and the STI
isn't quite as remarkable. Its throttle response is slower, its steering isn't as sharp, and its
suspension isn't as tightly controlled.
You can have almost as much fun with the Subaru on
back roads, but when you're up against an Evo, "almost" means 2nd place...

Even after another round of upgrades, the 2006 Subaru Impreza WRX
STI comes up slightly undercooked whenever the Evo is in town.
Or at the same test track. Or lurking on the same back roads.

That's exactly how I felt with the change from the STI to the EVO. They are close but its just something with the evo I cannot explain.
Anyhow, its been one year now since I've had my IX and still love driving it.
It makes life fun Very Happy

Couldn't have put it better myself... Thanks for the feedback Pete Wink

Yup, that's what they said earlier on Page 1... just before buying Evos! Laughing
... and their "special pic" (3 posts earlier) didn't help either. Laughing Laughing

Ahh, the good ol' days. Today's Evo X doesn't offer the same level of performance or driving experience.
350Wedge @ pistonheads.com wrote:
I owned an EVO VI RS2 last year and all I can say is what a brilliant car!
Very responsive to drive and easy to live with as an everyday car.

Mine was reasonably standard other than an HKS Super Drager exhaust which while gave a nice exhaust note wasnt that loud at all.
It was also EcuTek'd and producing a good healthy 320bhp. Because it was tuned properly it was still giving a good 26mpg on a decent run.
I did use it as an everyday car.

The big advatage of the RS2 is no Anti Yaw Control so thats one less complicated fluid change, and the AYC is also the transmission weak point and prone to breaking!
Its also very expensive to replace.

You get a basic form of Aircon which is what you mention, you dont get the full climate control of the GSR.

Gear ratio's on the RS2 are the same as a GSR where the RS has a close ratio box so that wouldnt be suitable for say the Ring,
you'd run out of revs on the straights.

I've never owned an Integra so i cant make any comments about those.
I've had an Impreza WRX and driven the STi and WR1 versions, not a spec C.
All those however dont feel as tight or responsive as the EVO. The suspension is too soft in standard form.
My EVO was on standard suspension and although yes it was set up on the hard side it was fine for road use
and lets not forget the whole purpose of the RS2 was trackdays!

You did get crappy standard seats but the idea behind that was that the owner could then swap them for whatever he wanted.
Mine had some very nice Sparco bucket seats fitted.

Any questions about the EVO just give me a shout, i have some pictures of my old one somewhere i could post up if you wanted...

The only thing that I don't agree with are the Noise & Vibration issues.
As far as "Harshness" goes, the E6 has surprisingly good ride in spite of having very firm suspension.
It's MUCH smoother than my old 4wd 1800 GSR...That was a huge PITA to drive on 205/45 x 17" tyres.

But the E6 RS2 suffers from too much noise and vibrations if it's used as a daily driver.
You get tired very quickly on longer drives. IMHO fit a resonator instead of the cat converter
and add a sound-deadening kit and you're good to go.

The evo is an animal in comparison! Still miss the six for the rawness. Very Happy

When I had an Impreza I wanted an Evo6, now I got an Evo6 I don't want an Impreza or anything else yet.

If you got an Impeza you'd eventually look up the tree and see an Evo further up and then you set your sites on getting one,
owning an Evo you wouldn't look down the tree and see an Impreza a lot lower down and say one day if I work hard
I'll get me one of those.
