Three weeks after the victory of Audi at Le Mans, nobody expected the Peugeot also dominating in Imola (4th round ILMC). The technical director of the French team, Bruno Famin, analyzes the reasons for this superiority and explains why the hierarchy interview in Italy could be called into question in England.

Technically, it was there a reason why the crew of the No. 7 Peugeot 908 (Bourdais-Davidson) is faster than the No. 8 (Montagny-Sarrazin)?
Bruno Famin: Our two cars were moving in slightly different aerodynamic configurations, and one was more efficient than the other in race conditions.

Le Mans, the Audi and Peugeot were on a par on the track, but 908 more deteriorated than their tires R18. Three weeks later at Imola, the Peugeot 908 were faster on the track and more efficient tires. Why is this?
This supports the theory that new cars s'exploitent a very narrow window of use. Overall, our self love extreme conditions. Be very hot with tires mediums. Be very cold with soft, as was the case at Le Mans during the night. Obviously, the Audi works well in a temperature range different from ours. With ten degrees less, the balance of power would not have been the same in Imola.

If we follow your reasoning, the Audi would be more efficient than the Peugeot at Silverstone ...
It was cold in June at Le Mans, it will perhaps warm months in England in September! Anyway, Silverstone circuit is a more rhythmic, faster ... The deal will be different. And we have advanced our understanding of tires by then.

And you enjoy the summer break to work on a hybrid engine?
Of course. It is a major development, but we do not want to talk about it for now.

Finally, what is your reaction to the announcement of the Porsche back in 2014?
The announcement of the World Endurance Championship is already bearing fruit. This demonstrates the attractiveness can have the discipline to a manufacturer. Technologically speaking, the Endurance is closer to what is happening on our roads than is F1.
