Better Peugeot 308 RC-Z Pics Reveal Retractable Rear Wing

Our spy photographers have once again managed to catch Peugeot's upcoming 308 RC-Z coupe undergoing testing in Europe.

Unlike the black RC-Z prototype we brought you earlier, these new pictures reveal more details about the car's overall shape as well as its retractable rear wing. Design wise, the production model appears virtually identical to the 308 RC-Z Concept that first appeared at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2007. The small patch of camouflage on the roof even suggests that a version of the concept's "double bubble" roof may be destined for production.

Expected to be launched in 2010, the RC-Z will come equipped with several of the 308's more powerful engines including a possible high performance unit with 250hp (184kW).

Although Peugeot hasn't announced when the car will be officially unveiled, timing seems to suggest that it could make an appearance at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

On sale spring 2010

Peugeot 308 RCZ teaser released

Press Release

In September 2007, at the Frankfurt Motor Show, Peugeot unveiled a concept car which left no observer unmoved: the 308 RCZ. The desire to turn it into a commercial reality soon became overwhelming. However, to achieve the transformation from dream to reality required real determination, daring, and a lot of inventiveness.

The stylists and engineers worked together to ensure that the whole vehicle was in keeping with the expectations created by the exterior styling. If the first wish was to keep the purity of the original styling, in spite of the challenges imposed by its production and commercialisation, the stakes went even further.

In fact, some very ambitious objectives were set in terms of driving dynamics and build quality in order to give the car its own, extremely strong identity. The objective behind this compact 2+2 Coupé is for it to become an exclusive vehicle, full of emotion, aimed at enthusiasts who are particularly discerning with regards to driving enjoyment. Its name, RCZ, symbolises this special and unique position within the Peugeot range, as it is the first car which does not use the usual zero or double zero numbering system. The RCZ, therefore, acts as an illustration of all of Peugeot's key values; values which move with the times but are still pure and always in keeping with today.

Another challenge faced by the project team was to complete the development of this new vehicle in a particularly short period of time. This was achieved as, just two years after the concept car was first shown, the RCZ will be revealed for the first time to the public, in its final form at the 63rd Frankfurt Motor Show.

A real challenge in the current economic climate, the RCZ will go on sale in Spring 2010.

Peugeot RCZ sports car set for Frankfurt

Paris - A production version of the Peugeot 308 RCZ sports car is set to be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, two years after making its debut at the same show in a concept version. The French car maker has released teaser images of the sports car, closely resembling the original concept with a long nose, pronounced door sills and the humpback curve in the roof.

It is the first model in the Peugeot stable that will do without the numbers in its name and simply be called the RCZ.

Peugeot is keeping mum on the power unit but it is likely to be the 1.6-litre engine developed jointly by PSA and BMW and currently found in the MINI with an output of up to 211 hp. The diesel version is expected to be fitted with a 163 hp 2-litre unit.

The sales start is scheduled for early 2010, starting with a coupe version but a convertible to be expected at a later stage.

Peugeot Considering Hybrid, Convertible & Even Quicker Versions of RCZ

A more powerful, Porsche 911-like 'Targa' version of the RCZ may be in the offering in the future

Peugeot is aiming high with the RCZ.

The French volume car maker is reported to be considering a faster version of the RCZ, one that makes it more competitive vis-a-vis the Audi TT, as well as a hybrid and cabriolet variants to round out the range.

The RCZ could come with a 'Targa'-type model, along the lines of the Porsche 911, says the RCZ's production chief Marjorie Lhullier. "If we could do a targa similar to the Porsche 911 with the RCZ double-bubble roof it would be fantastic," she is quoted in the Autocar story.

But that RCZ will have to have a more powerful engine than the current range-topping 1.6 liter turbo with 200 bhp in order for the model to be considered within 'Targa' territory. The RCZ, as it is now, though, is a light car at 1275 kg, making that 1.6 liter take the car from 0 to 60 mph (100 km/h) in a decent 7.6 seconds.

Also in the cards, according to Lhullier, may be a diesel-hybrid with power in the range of 200 bhp too.

Peugeot will be going after a different consumer demographic with the RCZ model, expecting a customer-base that is 80 percent male, as opposed to its other cabriolet/coupe models. Both the 207CC and the 308CC are heavily aimed at female drivers.

Starting price for the RCZ in the U.K. market is expected to be below £20,000 (22,855 euros). The model is slated to go on sale in the spring of 2010.

Peugeot RCZ Limited Edition Announced

A very limited edition: pre-orders from 17/09

With a strong tradition of "vehicles for pleasure" and nearly 200 years of industrial adventure, Peugeot is today launching a "Limited Edition" of the RCZ, reserved for its first 200 European customers.

Much more than a dream which has become a reality, the RCZ has been designed as an exclusive "custom" vehicle aimed at particularly discerning and demanding buyers. The 200 examples of the "Limited Edition" version of Peugeot's compact coupé can already be pre-ordered at the Frankfurt show or in the network; contact is also possible on Peugeot's Internet site. An edition numbered from 1 to 200 with a specific and top of the range product content.

Equipped with a 1.6-litre THP 115 kW (156 bhp) petrol engine coupled to a 6-speed gearbox, this numbered edition of the RCZ gives a first glimpse of the new pearlescent white paintwork.

This livery provides a sharp contrast with the roof, covered with real carbon, as are the mirror shells that coordinate with the gloss black of the bumper grille and the brake calipers, the smoked chrome of the wheel arches and the matte black of the 19'' wheels. The interior is finished with top of the range Nappa black leather upholstery.

Finally, the "Limited Edition" RCZ comes very well equipped with equipment such as the WIP COM 3D (and the Peugeot Emergency service), the Vision Pack (directional bi-Xenon headlamps, headlamp wash, etc.), the Nappa Leather Pack (heated electric leather seats, over-mats, etc.), the Easy Motion Pack (front and rear parking assistance, etc.), the alarm, etc.

The "Limited Edition" RCZ is available in France at a price of 35,500 euros and will be delivered in spring 2010, when the new car is launched.

A snippet of history
Two hundred examples of this limited edition will be produced. This is a reference to Peugeot's 200-year industrial history, which will be celebrated in 2010.

Peugeot RCZ Roadster in the works

After Peugeot revealed the RCZ sports car coupe version at the Frankfurt Motor Show as a competitor for models like Audi TT Coupe, was to be expected to also see a competitor for the roadster version. According to a Peugeot official, the company is taking into consideration two alternatives for the future model: "a roadster version as a competitor for the Audi TT, but also a Targa variant in the spirit of the first 911."

The model will feature a removable roof panel, most probably made out of carbon fiber, and will feature the same technology as its coupe brother.

The engine range will include a 1.6-litre turbo petrol with direct injection and 200bhp, a 156bhp 1.6-litre turbo petrol and a 2 liter version that will brake the 200 hp barrier.

Looking at the vid i would say Peugeot still went with style, fuel economy and comfort but to compete against its rival TT, i dont think so yet...Unless RCZ can bump its HP figures higher then we see...
