Hyundai Introduces its New Veloster on the Road : Hyundai made the most of T&T’s abundance of long weekends and holidays by planning their Car Crawl and Lime promotion on the evening before Spiritual Baptist Liberation Day. The atmosphere in Woodbrook was abuzz with activity as people came out for their customary, pre-holiday, after-work limes. The convoy of brand new Hyundai Velosters and Elantras were all dressed up and ready to head down Cipriani Boulevard and Ariapita Avenue.Aside from the viewings at the showroom, the event was designed to debut the brand new Veloster to the public, parade-style. As the cars took their sweet time to move along, they effortlessly turned heads and slowed traffic all evening long. Naturally, the breathtaking Hyundai models in their racer-girl outfits also managed to capture everyone’s attention too, making everyone forget that they were ever in a hurry. The Hyundai men also flanked the crawl carrying backlit signs that, along with photos of the new Veloster and Elantra, invited people to join th...

The FIA’s top regional officials congratulated Bissessar on his international success in the field of drag racing. By the end of the night it was apparent that in this particular discipline there were no other competitors who had done as exceedingly well.
Detroit Motor Show 2012 : The International Motor Show calendar kicked off the year with Detroit's North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) where 770,000+ people attended. Highlights included the new Acura NSX with its unique 4WD hybrid gas/electric system, the stunning new Lexus LF-LC Sport Coupe Concept, the exciting Code 140R and Tru130S compact sports car concepts from Chevrolet and the new Dodge Dart. Cadillac also showed off its new agile, rear-wheel-drive, BMW 3-series fighter called the ATS. Total Trailblazers 4x4 Annual All Terrain Challenge: Mud Mad... : “And everywhere that Mary went, the van was sure to go…” The day began in earnest with a 7 a.m. call time at the Caroni Bird Sanctuary. Suzuki Jimnys, Toyota Hiluxes, Mazda BT-50s, Ford Rangers, Land Rovers, Range Rovers and even a chop-top, door-netted Nissan Patrol were gearing up for a taste of the Total Trailblazers 4x4 Annual All Terrain Challenge event. Last year there was so much rain that the King of the Hill had to be cancelled but this year things seemed off to a great start.
Nissan announces the Juke-R : The Ultimate Compact Crossover : JUKE-R SET TO INJECT NEW EXCITEMENT INTO THE CROSSOVER MARKET Not content with re-shaping the new car market by pioneering the crossover - a success reflected in the soaring sales of its Qashqai and Juke models - Nissan is now creating the Juke-R, the first ever super crossover. Only two Juke-Rs will be created, one in left-hand-drive and one in right-hand-drive.
'Bagodex 2011 : Every year, for the last three years running there has been a Solodex score to settle between the islands of Trinidad and Tobago. The Trinis, being naturally cocky, usually think that they have the competition in the bag– after all, there is a full season of Solodex each year plus, practice events at ARC so they have more seat time. It is a fairly established fact that drivers who are regulars of winding roads like those in Princes Town or Maracas Valley, for example, seem to have an easier time on the course, once they manage to grasp it. This quiet phenomenon has allowed Tobagonian competitors to refine their natural ability thanks to the roads they drive on every day. They are in a sense like the Bajans, except that the roads in Barbados are far more slippery.
Hyundai reveals first images of new i30 : High Wycombe, 7 September 2011 – Hyundai has revealed the first photo of the new-generation i30, ahead of the car’s world premiere at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA) next week, showing an exciting new look for the company’s best-selling C-segment hatchback.
Suzuki Swift Sport to debut in Frankfurt : The all-new Swift Sport offers higher power and lower fuel consumption are delivered by the 1.6-litre M16A engine, developed exclusively for the Sport model. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission, also developed specifically for the Swift Sport. We can also look forward to superior cornering stability and brisker, more responsive handling thanks to struts with internal rebound springs and an exclusive rear-suspension design. The car will debut at Frankfurt this coming September at the IAA International Auto Show 2011 and hopefully we'll be seeing a few at Lifestyle Motors shortly after. With all the great improvements on the all-new chassis for the regular Swift 1.4, we can't wait to get our hands on this model for a test drive!
PM announces limited State of Emergency : August 22, 2011: Several areas in Trinidad and Tobago will be under a curfew from 9 pm to 5 am under the proclamation of the limited State of Emergency. Acting Commissioner of Police Stephen Williams and Chief of Defence Staff Kenrick Maharaj were also in attendance. Government has indicated that the main objective of the measures were to eliminate crime and to get the illegal guns off the streets, assuring law abiding citizens that they had nothing to worry about. The areas under curfew will be those under the boundaries of the Municipal Corporations Act, that is local government areas under the Port of Spain and San Fernando City Corporations; the Chaguanas and Arima Borough Corporations and the Diego Martin and San Juan/Laventille R...

Sheldon and John Force kick back after signing autographs

Summit Motorsports Park, Norwalk Ohio. The stands were packed at the Summit Raceway in Norwalk and with the pits filled at the same time the attendance was estimated at over 50,000– more than the average amount for NHRA National Events. This came as no surprise as the Night Under Fire has been recognized as the largest single-day Drag Racing event on the planet! It is an exhibition drag racing show open only to invited racers. Our very own local Sheldon Bissessar was specially invited to make some passes with three of the fastest Top Dragsters on the scene today including previous IHRA World Record holder Troy Stone.

Racers selected are the best in their field, representing each major type of Drag Racing machine that ran since drag racing first became popular– from gassers all the way to the Nitro Funny Cars with everything in between. Drag Racing megastar John Force along with 19 other top racers including Frank Hawley, Robert Hight, Elaine Larson, Jim Head, Doc Halladay, Jeff Arend, Jeff Miller and Larry “Spiderman” McBride were all ready to blaze the quarter mile at Summit Motorsports Park. One of the main highlights of the evening was an autograph session open to members of the public with all 20 star drivers. We are confident that Sheldon certainly broke his personal record for the most autographs signed in a single day as hats, T-shirts, hero cards and almost anything else fans could bring including themselves were graced with celebrity ink. Some two hours later all the drivers emerged with their writing hands exhausted but ready to rock the racetrack as another main event, the Parade of the Stars began. Paired off, all the cars were towed down the racetrack for all the 50,000+ cheering fans, racers and organisers to see including Sheldon who proudly displayed the Trinidadian flag on his car and the team golf cart. Bill Bader, of the Bader family, owners of the Summit Motorsports Park introduced him as the Trinidad Rocket to all of the fans who were all fascinated that anyone would travel so far to compete in US-based Drag Racing meets.

The PTRT team was required to make two exhibition passes in the carefully planned show put together by Bill Bader than managed to pack over 10 classes of cars from at least four decades of racing in the USA. In this way the crowd was able to appreciate the history of each type of racecar, thanks Bill’s excellent commentary. In an interview with crew chief Aaron Sipple of ASE/Ironman Chassis, he highlighted Sheldon’s IHRA World Records of the 5.68s e.t. and 243mph top speed, calling it the fastest Top Dragster in history thus far. The Outlaw Dragster class ran eighth-mile exhibition passes with Sheldon running in 3.8-second range. Midway through the runs all of Norwalk lost electrical power, rendering the event in darkness and without commentary. Fans waited patiently and without incident for over two hours as backup generators were activated in the pit area. When the power came back at around 11pm, fans literally jumped in unison making their own thunder in the stands and racing resumed in full force– such was the passion and outstanding good behaviour at this event.

After all the racecars made their passes including the Jet dragsters, Nitro funny cars, Nitro motorcycles, retro Nitro dragsters and the Jet truck the crowd was treated to over 30 minutes of the biggest, most elaborate fireworks display ever held at Norwalk in the 34 years of the Night Under Fire, completely choreographed with theme music. When this amazing show came to a close the fans were invited onto the racetrack as the 20 star cars and drivers were towed in for a final meet and greet, complete with autographs and photos! Sheldon Bissessar would like to thank his sponsors for this meet– Total Lubricants, The Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs, Mojo’s Restaurant & Lounge, RJB Building and Civil Engineering Contractors, PSTL, Zorce Racing Magazine, Trinituner.com, I Love My Ride TV and Arrive Alive and the thousands of fans whose enthusiasm made this an overwhelming experience for the team!
