The Rotax pre-qualification race essentially was run to split the entire field of Rotax competitors into two groups of 16. The top 16 would compete in the Rotax "Ultimate Driver Challenge" and the remainder, would compete in the Rotax "best of the rest" race. The lower sixteen would automatically include the Rotax Masters competitors who agreed to give the younger, most promising karters a chance at the F1 Brazil prize trip. This meant that both races would be very exciting. The course was proving to be fast, difficult and tricky as karts went flying into water barriers and off the hairpins. Thankfully injuries were not serious and although two competitors did make it to the nearest hospital, everyone else walked safely off the race course. The time put into actually walking the course was proving to be a valuable asset. Rotax pre-qualification was run as two races, taking the best times of the younger Rotax classes for entry into the Ultimate Driver Challenge.
