The Audi Q5 Sportback’s gorgeous new second generation models were recently previewed. If you’re not up to speed, it’s Audi’s mid-sized combo of an SUV (as most of their Q-badged cars are) and something of a coupé-ish nature i.e. sleeker and sportier by design. The firmer riding S Line and more powerful S models are sportier than the regular Q5 Sportback and apart from more dynamic updated exterior styling and dimensions, the interior is given a more cozy, yet tech savvy feel. The front passenger even gets their own screen. 

There will be more cargo space and a roof rack as an optional extra. The electrical system is now going to 48v, facilitating an electric AC compressor, keeping the car’s climate controlled while the Audi Q5 Sportback with MHEV plus is coasting or in EV mode. Yes, that refers to a 24hp/230Nm motor fed by a tiny 1.7kWh battery that can be recharged via up to 25kW from the regen system or via the engine. Plug-in Hybrid versions with larger batteries and an external charger will join the lineup much later on.

All the internal combustion engines will work alongside the MHEV plus mild hybrid system and a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. Choices should range from a 204hp/340Nm 2.0-litre TFSI four cylinder (FWD) then an equally powerful 400Nm TDI Quattro four (probably not available in T&T), and finally the Audi SQ5’s 3.0-litre TFSI V6 will bring 367hp and 550Nm to the party.
